Pazham Pori (Fried Banana)

Pazham Pori is an all time favorite evening snack item in Kerala.It is made using nenthrapazham/ethakka fruit.For better taste, we should use super ripe and sweet bananas.It is also called Ethakka Appam or banana fritters.This is a very simple and deliciously easy to make a snack for unexpected guests.

Ingredients


  1. Ripe Plantain / Nenthrapazham - 2
  2. All purpose flour / Maida - 3/4 cup
  3. Rice flour - 2 tbsp
  4. Sugar - 3 tbsp
  5. Baking soda / Cooking soda - 1/4 tsp
  6. Cardamom powder / Elakai podi  - 1 tsp
  7. Turmeric powder - a pinch (optional)
  8. Black sesame seeds - 1 tsp (optional)
  9. Water as needed
  10. Oil - for frying
Preparation
  1. Peel the bananas and cut it in lengthwise.
  2. In a bowl, take maida, rice flour, sugar, baking soda, cardamom powder, turmeric powder and black sesame seeds.
  3. Blend it nicely into a smooth thick batter by adding necessary water.
  4. Heat oil for deep frying.
  5. Dip the banana slices in the batter and evenly coat them.
  6. Drop it in hot oil and fry the batter coated banana slices by turning both sides until golden brown.
  7. Keep the fried slices on a paper towel for draining excess oil.
  8. Seve hot with a cup of hot tea.
