Banana Fritters | Pazham Pori

Banana fritters aka Pazham pori in Malayalam is a favourite tea time snack for most of the Keralites. In my case, I would love to have it  with piping hot tea on a rainy day immersed in melody romantic songs. Its a quick and easy snack that can be prepared with less time for any unexpected guests. The ingredients for making this snack remains more or less the same over years. This is being served in almost all snack shops in Kerala.

Ingredients
  1. Ripe Plantain - 3 nos
  2. All purpose flour - 1.5 cup
  3. Rice flour - 1/4 cup
  4. Sugar - 3/4 cup (depends on the sweetness of banana)
  5. Cardamom - 2 nos(crushed)
  6. Water - 1.25 cup (225 ml)
  7. Oil - for frying (preferably coconut oil)
Preparation
  1. Peel and slice ripe plantain as per your wish. I have sliced one plantain into two pieces in the middle and then slice each halfway into 3.
  2. In a bowl, add all purpose flour, sugar, rice flour, cardamom with little water at a time into a semi thick batter.
  3. Heat oil in a deep kadai.
  4. When the oil becomes hot enough, dip sliced pieces in the batter first, coat them evenly and slide into oil.
  5. Flip them in between and fry until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Drain excess oil and serve hot with a cup of Tea or coffee.
